The Bouquinists (second-hand booksellers) are established along the quays of the Seine and have on offer books, records and posters of all kinds. They have been there since the construction of the Pont-Neuf (New Bridge), and for a long time were driven away by the royal powers-that-be. In 1891, they were authorised to set up provided that they respect certain conditions, notably to leave an open view of the banks of the Seine.
