In this Campo, the great gate became a commemorative monument after the victory of Sebastiano Venier at Lepante in 1571Sur ce Campo, le grand portail devenu monument commémoratif après la victoire de Sebastiano Venier à Lepanto en 1571 with the two winged victory and the statue of San Giustina. However, the allegorical statues were added much later.

The lions decorating the square were spoils of war from Athens after the reconquest of Morea in late XVIIth century. The lion in a crouched position bears runic writings on the flank.
