Cancale is a nice seaport pricipally dedicated to fishing located on the Côte d'Emeraude (Emerald coast). It offers a beautiful view over the bay which you can admire best from the Sentiers des Douaniers (path of the Custom Officers). The little seaport founded around 545 by the monk Saint-Méen was surnamed Cancaven (which means « small bay of the river ») in the XIIth century. Then, in 1545, the little seaport became a town and was the official provider of oysters for the French Royal family. Cancale is still famous for sea-food gastronomy. The city is also famous for the sailors involved in fishing expeditions on the Newfoundland coasts. You can also see in seaport traditional fishing boats called bisquines.
Things to see: the typical back streets where the women used to make and mend the fishing nets, behind the harbour, the view over the bay from the Sentiers des Douaniers. Thing to do: have a sea-food dish.
