One of the large boulevards leading from the Place de l'Opéra, it is so-called in memory of the convent des Capucines. It is worth stopping off to see several houses: number 14 is where the first public showing of films took place arranged by the Lumières brothers in 1895; at number 19, there is the Hôtel du Crédit Foncier de France dating back to 1726. Number 24 is where the famous, popular singer Mistinguett stayed. She had great acclaim in the successful operettas of the 1920s. Number 27, the former Samaritaine, has a most interesting Art Deco façade. At number 35, there only remains the glass frontage and entrance doorway of what was once photographer Félix Tournachon's boutique. He was better known by the name of Nadar. He constructed his building in glass to serve as his boutique, painted red, and had Antoine Lumière install the first neon sign in Paris. Financial problems forced him to leave this place in 1872. Number 39 houses the Fragonard perfume museum.
