If you walk through this flashy and bourgeois district with its luxury shops and its antique dealer galleries, you can hardly imagine that it was at first a vast sandy swamp before becoming a disreputable area. Until the 1960s, it was considered the vismet area, the bad boys' district.

Today, its antique market is one of the most renowned in Europe. You can find anything there: XVIIIth century furniture, fine porcelain pieces, ancient engravings, coins, embroidered clothes, 1960s sophisticated furniture. You may think the prices expensive but it is far cheaper than in other great European capital cities. There are cake chocolate shops all around the Grand Sablon square. It is easy to recognize the best by the queue in front of them.
