This is the former "Jardin royal des plantes médicinales" (Royal Garden of Medicinal Plants), requested by Louis XIII's doctors in 1626, housing a school of botany, natural history and pharmacy, whose collections were supplemented thanks to doctors who travelled. The celebrated Buffon and his Histoire Naturelle (Natural History) made the garden famous. Today, it is a charming park, filled with flowers, a maze, an alpine garden, menageries (created in 1793) and the world-renowned Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle (Natural History Museum).
