A haven of peace in the heart of the Latin quarter, this elegant garden à la française, of 25 hectares, has delighted generations of children, students and writers... In addition to its charming French layout, the Jardin du Luxembourg provides a remarkable overview of 19th Century sculpture, initated by Louis-Philippe: several monuments are erected to the memory of intellectuals and artists by the great sculptors of the era. The statues of the Queens of France and distinguished women of history adorn its terraces. The lovely Médicis fountain commemorates Queen Marie who had the palace built from 1615. The pavilions, fruit garden and rose garden, merry-go-round, puppet theatre and the boats which you can sail on the pond, transport the visitor into another time. Lectures are given there on arboriculture, apiculture, gardening and tennis.
