Passerelle des Arts

|
As a bridge linking the Louvre and the Institute, the Passerelle des Arts (footbridge) provides an outstanding view of Paris. It was built between 1801 and 1804 and was the first bridge in Paris to be constructed of iron. At that time, it was comprised of 9 iron arches each seventeen metres in height, which encumbered river traffic. The bridge was rebuilt at the beginning the 1980s, in steel, this time with only 5 arches. Decorated with shrubs and some benches, the footbridge provides an interesting view of the Louvre, the Institute and the tip of Ile de la Cité.
