Petit Sablon district

|
The district of Petit Sablon, like the adjacent Grand Sablon, owe their name to the nature of the site. Before, it was a plain full of bogs, fields and sand. Between 1289 and 1706, there was a cemetery, created and "provided" by the Saint John Hospital nearby. Finally, in the XIXth century, as the city was growing, Petit Sablon was brought to life. Around 1880, Petit Sablon square was paved then a charming public garden was created. The neorenaissance style square has many statues. 48 crafts are represented there by symbols. Try to recognize boilermakers, foundry workers, roofers, painters, glassblowers, wine merchants, etc. |
