Created in the middle of the Cour Napoléon by Ieoh Ming Pei, according to the wishes of the President of the Republic, François Mitterrand, between 1983 and 1989, the Pyramide du Louvre, an object of much debate, finally managed to win public approval. Made out of glass and stainless steel, it comprises the main entrance to the Louvre Museum, 35 m wide and 21 high, in accordance with the proportions of the Pyramid of Gizeh.
