Number 22 marks the entrance to the Banque de France, built on the initiative of Bonaparte in the Hôtel de La Vrillière constructed by Mansart for the Marquis of the same name, then occupied in 1713 by the son of Louis XIV and Mme de Montespan. From this period, only the Galerie Dorée (Golden Hall) survives. Today, it is the head office of this important French institution. Number 33 has an independent double helical stairway, very practical in the days when the building had a brothel: it enabled different clients not to encounter one another on their visits to the house.
