Dating from 1634, Rue de Richelieu is known for its theatres, press publishing houses (L'illustration, le Petit Journal, le Journal) and for its many famous residents. To give a few examples: Richelieu, Mazarin, Colbert, Diderot, Stendhal, Balzac, Pierre Crozat and Molière. At number 8, there used to be Richelieu's stables; number 21, the Hôtel Dodun; number 23, the mansion in which the designer Mignard died; number 39, the house where Diderot lived; number 40, the house in which Molière died; and at number 61, Stendhal's house. At number 58, is a part of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (National Library of France), named Site Richelieu.
