What better way to discover Paris than to follow the river which crosses the city ? Many " bateaux-mouches " (literally "fly boats" or open excursion boats) allow one to appreciate the capital from magnificent viewpoints. From the east to the west, one can see: Bibliothèque Nationale François Mitterrand (François Mitterrand National Library) and its four towers in the shape of an open book; the Parc de Bercy (park); the Ministère des Finances (Ministry of Finance); Gare d'Austerlitz (Austerlitz railway station); the Jardin des Plantes (Plant Garden); the Bassin de l'Arsenal (Arsenal Dock) which links to the Place de la Bastille (Bastille Square); the Institut du Monde Arabe (Arab World Institute); the Ile Saint-Louis (isle) and its superb mansions; the Ile de la Cité (isle) with Notre-Dame Cathedral; Place Saint-Michel (square) and that of Châtelet; the Louvre; the Hôtel des Monnaies; the Musée d'Orsay (museum); Place de la Concorde (square) and the Assemblée Nationale (National Assembly); the Grand Palais and the Esplanade des Invalides around the magnificent Pont Alexandre III (bridge); the American Church; the Pont de l'Alma (bridge); the Eiffel Tower and the Trocadéro, Beaugrenelle and the Maison de la Radio (Radio Centre); and Parc André-Citroân (park).
